The group Acupuncturists Without Borders just went back to New Orleans until at least the end of Febuary when the Good Sam law runs out. I was there in December and it was amazing - we were treating in group settings doing primarily auricular points (NADA for trauma/stress and acute problems). AWB treats anyone who was affected by the hurricanes...locals, rescue workers, volunteers, etc. Everywhere we went people were asking us to come back, what they recieved from those treatments was profound.
AWB is a new organization and run completely on donations. It is all volunteer, practitioners pay their own way there. It's about $1/treatment so all donations help. Cash is needed for supplies, gas to get to the venues, etc, and also donations of needles is very helpful, 1/2" and 1", any brand is gratefully accepted. The address to send donations to by check or through paypal is on the website at www.acuwithoutborders.org
AWB will continue as an organization after we can no longer practice in New Orleans and go to other places to do disaster relief work. If anyone has time to go down I strongly encourage it, I've done alot of volunteer work and this was by far the best experience I've had.
