      I've put it in (capped) formulas for calming the shen and in tooth powders. A famous patent that I've seen work well featuring it is An shen bu xin wan.

        Oops, sorry. I misread and answered for zhen zu mu (mother of pearl) which I use alot more due to cost. Of course otherwise it's similar although pearl is more Heart and the mother (the shell) more Liver. I have used real pearl in a kind of fancy formula to calm and cool (couldn't really tell exactly how it helped) and have heard good things about margarite acne pills and from women who use eat it (from the little vials) for their skin.
